Western Lessons
Sierra Wilkinson of Beach Cities Equestrian welcomes riders of all ages, disciplines, and backgrounds to learn to have a more symbiotic relationship with their horse by combining classical training with a back-to-the-basics approach. With a background in kinesiology and personal training, she also wants to educate riders on body awareness, riding fitness, and how that correlates to their equine partnership.
Sierra is a native to the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and was a proud member of both the United States Pony Club and the Peninsula Equestrian Team. She began riding at the age of 3 and has over 35 years of experience. She has experience in multiple disciplines, including hunters, jumpers, dressage, eventing, western ranch riding, and natural horsemanship. She enjoys training and developing young horses, and has a special skill set for troubleshooting behavior issues. She believes in a ground-up approach, and that balance in training specificity, timing, and willingness will result in a more well-rounded horse. Sierra admits that “making” a horse, rather than “breaking” a horse, is one of the most rewarding parts of her job.
For the past 5 years, Sierra has been developing young hunter jumper riders for the Bright Side Equestrian training program, an elite show program, as the proud assistant to trainer Mary Hirsch. Sierra is known for her exceptional flatwork, and is a true perfectionist of the art. She has produced many exceptional young riders and prides herself on using her fitness education to help teach better equitation. She excels in training and conditioning horses to become well-rounded, balanced, and supple, and loves helping horses and riders become better athletes.
Beach Cities Equestrian will be offering lessons, horse training, and vacation services to all boarders of all disciplines. Please come join Sierra for private or group lessons, horse training, riding, or horsemanship needs. Sierra has recently added Western Trail and Basic Western Riding and wants to provide an inclusive experience for all riders from all disciplines.
